An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine: Guide for Practitioners in the Emergency Department

[3.jpg]
Winner of the 2006 AMWA Book Awards Physicians Category, An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine is a much-needed resource for individuals practicing in this challenging field. It takes a novel approach, describing in detail the best and most current methods including initial patient evaluation, generation of differential diagnoses, problem-solving and management of challenging conditions based on presenting symptoms. Unlike other textbooks, in which the diagnosis is known, this textbook approaches clinical problems as clinicians approach patients – without full knowledge of the final diagnosis. It provides an understanding of how to approach patients with undifferentiated conditions, ask the right questions, gather historical data, utilize physical examination skills and order and interpret laboratory and radiographic tests. It provides current management and disposition strategies with controversies presented, including pearls and summary points for each topic covered. The book is multi-author, each contributor chosen because of a track record in teaching as well as being internationally recognised experts in the specialty.

Evidence-Based Emergency Medicine (Evidence-Based Medicine)

[1.jpg]

Emergency physicians assess and manage a wide variety of problems from patients presenting with a diversity of severities, ranging from mild to severe and life-threatening. They are expected to maintain their competency and expertise in areas where there is rapid knowledge change.
Evidence-based Emergency Medicine is the first book of its kind in emergency medicine to tackle the problems practicing physicians encounter in the emergency setting using an evidence-based approach. It summarizes the published evidence available for the diagnosis and treatment of common emergency health care problems in adults. Each chapter contextualizes a topic area using a clinical vignette and generates a series of key clinically important diagnostic and treatment questions. By completing detailed reviews of diagnostic and treatment research, using evidence from systematic reviews, RCTs, and prospective observational studies, the authors provide conclusions and practical recommendations.
Focusing primarily on diagnosis in areas where evidence for treatment is well accepted (e.g. DVTs), and treatment in other diseases where diagnosis is not complex (e.g. asthma), this text is written by leading emergency physicians at the forefront of evidence-based medicine. Evidence-based Emergency Medicine is ideal for emergency physicians and trainees, emergency department staff, and family physicians specialising in the acute care of medical and injured patients.

    Cardiology Books

Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume

A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, Single Volume (Heart Disease (Braunwald) (Single Vol)

    Editorial Reviews
    Review
This is one of the most comprehensive textbooks I have ever come across. It truly leaves no stones unturned and each area is covered in impressive scope and depth. It is an indispensable source of reference for cardiologists and non-cardiologists alike.
The online version is very user-friendly and follows the same format as the textbook. One added bonus is the update feature where all the most recent advances are updated regularly and inserted into the relevant chapters. The CDROM contains a generous number of very well chosen, good quality slides which can be imported for use in presentations.
I would strongly recommend this textbook as a worthy addition to the medical library of any primary or secondary care physician and the online version makes it a very practical reference tool for everyday use.
